Fitness for Pre and Post Natal Women

Outdoor Grit is Adelaide’s newest outdoor fitness provider, specialising in group fitness for females, including pre and postnatal women and experienced mothers.

Based in the outskirts of the Adelaide CBD, in the City of Prospect, we value the needs and limitations of all our clients. Our BarBellas women’s only outdoor group fitness classes focus specifically on the unique interests and capacities of women.

We firmly believe that for prenatal women who are entering the childbearing process as well as postnatal women living out their child-rearing years, a safe and appropriate exercise program is essential for many reasons, including:

  • Maintaining and controlling healthy weight
  • Strengthening the core muscles including the abdominals which sustain significant trauma during birth
  • Developing the back muscles which are heavily fatigued when carrying a baby and rearing children
  • Strengthening the pelvic floor muscles to decrease the chance of incontinence
  • Preventing pregnancy related issues such as Gestational Diabetes Mellitus and pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure).

For pre and postnatal women, the emotional and psychological changes of pregnancy and birth can have detrimental impacts on mental health. Research has shown that exercising for as little as 30 minutes a day for five days a week can directly lower the risk of developing depression (PubMed, 2019). The endorphins hormones released during exercise leads to a heightened sense of happiness and well-being, less stress and anxiety. Furthermore, group fitness provides women with opportunities to develop strong relationships, be accountable to others and be an encouragement to women who are in a similar season of life.

Our mums and women’s only outdoor group fitness sessions are uniquely:

  • Led by proficient coaches who work with Allied Health Professionals to ensure exercise programs are safe, effective and appropriate to the individual.

Our BarBellas women’s only outdoor group fitness sessions run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9.15-9.55am and are held at St. Helen’s Park in Prospect.
