Is CrossFit for Everyone?

CrossFit can work for every person, but…

Hey, I’m Dan, Adelaide’s newest CrossFit Affiliate owner. I often talk to people about the benefits of CrossFit and how it can help a person be better at their everyday lives. The common question thrown out in to the conversation is “Is CrossFit for Everyone?”

Honestly speaking, NO! CrossFit is definitely NOT for everyone, however read on, as we base this statement on a few key factors.

We have absolutely no doubt that we CAN help any person achieve a better level of health and fitness, no matter age, fitness background or other restriction. Physical capabilities are NOT the issue when it comes to changing our health and general wellbeing through the CrossFit method – it is our mindset.

What we canNOT do however is help any person who doesn’t want want to be helped, nor has a limited mindset toward their health and wellbeing.

As the age-old saying goes, you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make the darn thing drink the water, no matter much how much you flog it. As a Coaching team, we cannot push people into committing to their health fitness. We cannot force someone to get outside of their comfort zone and take the long hard road and we cannot persuade someone to make their health a priority over other less important things – it just doesn’t work.

CrossFit is for anyone who has come to the revelation that their health and fitness must be a priority. We all need the right priorities and attitudes toward our health in order for real change to occur.

We have 3 core values that we believe are important for a person to make real change in their life and to become better versions of themselves. There are Community, Commitment and Courage. These values are posted on our gym walls, in the showers and toilets for everyone to see – you can’t miss them.

We define these 3 Core Values in this way:

Community – You enjoy being part of a community of diverse, yet like-minded people that will encourage you as you pursue your goals
Commitment – You are committed to making your health and fitness a priority, everyday, even though it is not going to be easy
Courage – You have the courage to take the hard road and abandon your comfort zone in order to push yourself to a new level

If a person can answer yes to the following three criteria which represents our core values, then they are ready to give CrossFit a try and are in a great place to make real change happen.

CrossFit is about changing lives for the better, for the life-span of the person – not just physically, but also mentally.

Summary

Remember, we all start somewhere in our health and fitness journeys – with baby steps. We then gradually move forward from there, building positive habits into our lifestyles that are sustainable and achievable.
